Domain registration
Register a new domain name or transfer one in. One key difference compared to many hosting providers: the domain is registered in your name, not ours. You remain the owner.
What’s included
- Registration of a new domain - we file the request, you are listed as the registrant.
- Transfer of an existing domain - we help you move the domain from your current registrar with minimal downtime.
- DNS management - A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT (SPF/DKIM/DMARC), CAA, and whatever else you need.
- DNSSEC - enabled by default where the TLD supports it.
- Renewals - we track the expiry date and invoice in good time. No accidentally expired domains.
- WHOIS privacy - where the TLD allows it, we apply WHOIS protection on your contact details.
Registrant = customer
This isn’t a given with hosting providers, but it is at Somogy: you are the registrant of the domain, not Somogy. In practice:
- At the registry (such as SIDN for
.nl), you are listed as the legal owner. - If Somogy ever ceases to exist, the domain stays yours.
- When you leave, there’s no “buyout fee” or messy transfer process - we hand over the auth code and you continue at any other registrar.
How it works technically
We work with Hosting Concepts B.V. (trading as OpenProvider) as registrar. Somogy is a reseller; OpenProvider is our contractual link to the registries (SIDN, EURid, Verisign, etc.). The domains are always registered in your name with the registry. OpenProvider and Somogy handle the technical management.
TLDs we support
The common ones:
- .nl (via SIDN) - the standard choice for Dutch organisations.
- .com / .org / .net / .info - the classic gTLDs.
- .eu - European identity.
- .be / .de / .fr and most other European ccTLDs.
- .app / .dev / .io / .ai and most newer TLDs.
A specific TLD we haven’t listed? Ask us - in 95% of cases we can arrange it.
What this is not
- We don’t do “domain parking” or speculative trading in domain names.
- We don’t offer email-forwarding-only packages without real hosting (if you bring your domain to Somogy, we connect it to actual email hosting or WordPress hosting by default).
- Premium domains (the “short and memorable” category where the registry itself charges a high price) we can register, but the premium price goes to the registry, not to Somogy.
Pricing
Renewal pricing follows the OpenProvider wholesale price plus a fixed margin for administration and renewal monitoring. See pricing or request a quote if you want to transfer in an entire portfolio.
